Magento 1 to 2 Migration

Magento ended its M1 support already on June 30, 2020. Retail merchants who are still operating in Magento 1 would definitely face multiple business and security risks. Magento without support is prone to vulnerabilities. Increased security is one of the reasons why leading ecommerce businesses such as Tile Giant, Land Rover, and many others have already upgraded to Magento 2 because they definitely understand that the software upgrade can improve their business.

Risk factors of retaining Magento 1

Security – Magento 1 website is prone to hacks and attacks due to lack of security patches

Payments Gateways – Magento website will be affected by PCI compliance scan.

Extensions – There will be lack of support to implement newly added extensions and old extensions might not be getting the necessary support from the 3rd party providers

    M1 to M2 Migration

While the migration from M1 to M2 was a necessity because of the M1 End of Life, the decision in favor
of migrating to M2 was tightly bound to the possibility to outsource various responsibilities. After the
decision to migrate was made, Janitorial supplies had to choose a reliable data transfer solution. The
Improved Import & Export was recommended by Expedux as a robust tool that copes with data
    migrations of any complexity.

According to the primary goal that Janitorial Supplies initially set, we had to transfer orders, customers, and products from Magento 1 to Magento 2. We had to deal with the following volumes of data

    10000+ customers

    11000+
    orders

    6000+
    products

The detailed list of entities migrated included

    Implementation

    Theme Migration

Magento 2 follows new approaches and architecture for developing themes and customization. Since the
1.x theme was not supportive for 2.x, we developed a custom theme using the Magento 2 front end developer guide.

    Extension Migration

The following steps were carried out for the migration:

Reviewed all the extensions, including third-party and custom extensions.
Made a list of extensions and bought compatible versions in the Magento Marketplace.
Some of the extensions were not available. So we developed those extensions from the scratch.
